O Portal Cinema teve o enorme prazer de entrevistar Andrea Carballo, uma das atrizes sul-americanas mais promissoras e talentosas do momento, cujo mais recente trabalho "Una Chica Invisible" será exibido no FantasPorto 2020. É difícil olhar para Andrea Carballo e para a sua já ilustre carreira e não ficar impressionado. Esta jovem atriz já participou em vários filmes, peças de teatro e séries de televisão, sendo que se destacou recentemente na série da Netflix intitulada "Las Chicas del Cable", mas também nos filmes "Finding Sofia" e "Lo que haría". Sendo já uma das atrizes argentinas mais em voga do momento, Carballo tem tudo para cimentar a sua posição estrelar com os seus próximos projetos a começar já por "Una Chica Invisible" que chega ao FantasPorto rodeado de grande expectativa. Foi um prazer conversar com Andrea Carballo e descobrir um pouco mais sobre o seu passado, método e expectativas de futuro e, agora, partilhamos consigo esta grande entrevista.
Portal Cinema had the pleasure of interviewing Andrea Carballo, one of the most promising and talented South American actresses of the moment, whose most recent work "Una Chica Invisible" will be shown at FantasPorto 2020. It's difficult to look at Andrea Carballo and her already illustrious career and not be impressed. This young actress has participated in several films, plays and television series. She recently had a great supporting role in the Netflix series entitled "Las Chicas del Cable", but also in the films "Finding Sofia" and "Lo que haría". Being one of the most fashionable Argentine actresses of the moment, Carballo has everything to cement her stellar position with her next projects starting with "Una Chica Invisible" that arrives at FantasPorto surrounded by great expectations. It was a pleasure to talk to Andrea Carballo and find out a little more about his past, method and expectations for the future, and now we share this great interview with you.
Portal Cinema (PC) – Antes de mais gostaria que nos contasse um pouco sobre a sua formação profissional e porque é que decidiu embarcar numa carreira profissional na indústria cinematográfica? Quais são as suas inspirações e principais influências na indústria/ First of all, tell us about your professional background, and why did you decided to embark on a professional career in the film industry? What are your inspirations and main influences in the industry?
Andrea Carballo (AC) - Desde cedo que comecei a participar em filmes. O meu primeiro trabalho à frente das câmara foi num pequeno filme intitulado "Blue sky, Black sky". Tinha apenas 18 anos. Também fiz teatro, algumas séries de televisão, mas a minha principal área de atividade é o cinema. Embarquei nesta jornada com toda a resolução necessária para trabalhar neste complexo setor, investindo todo o meu tempo na minha educação como atriz e sabendo que não há nenhum caminho seguro. Verdade seja dita, representar faz-me confrontar todas as minhas inseguranças e também me interliga com os meus pontos fortes.
As minhas inspirações são muitas e variadas, mas, acima de tudo, cresci a ver os filmes de Almodovar, Lynch, Godard, Bergman. Ao longo dos anos, comecei a pesquisar e a observava o cinema feito por mulheres, como os filmes de Agnes Varda, Lucrecia Martel e também de Liv Ullman, tanto como atriz, como cineasta. Há um livro que ela escreveu sobre as suas memórias como actriz que li várias vezes e todas as vezes foram inspiradoras. O cinema influenciou-me e levou-me a melhorar, mas a literatura também teve um papel essencial para me inspirar e pare me tornar numa melhor profissional.
I started making movies very early. My first job in front of the camera was in a film of two directors called "Blue sky, Black sky". I was just 18 years old. I also did theater, some television series, but my main activity is in cinema. I embarked in this journey with all the resolution that is needed to work in this industry, investing all my time in training as an actress and knowing that there is no safe path. Truth be told, acting makes me confront all of my insecurities and also connects me with my strengths.
My inspirations have been many, but above all I grew up watching movies from Almodovar, Lynch, Godard, Bergman. Over the years, I was researching and observing the cinema made by women, among other directors, Agnes Varda, Lucrecia Martel, also Liv Ullman, both as an actress and director. There is a book she wrote about her acting memories that I read several times and it always turned out to be inspiring. Not only cinema as influenced me and led me to become a better, but literature was played an essential role on inspiring me to become a better professional.
PC - Olhando para a sua promissora carreira até agora, podemos dizer que demonstrou uma grande aptidão para uma representação versátil em filmes, teatro e televisão. Pode-nos contar um pouco sobre as diferença que existem, na sua opinião, em relação ao tipo de trabalho nesses três campos? E qual destes prefere e porquê?/ Looking back at your promising career so far you’ve shown a great aptitude for versatile acting work on Films, Theatre and TV. Can you tell us a bit about the differences in you opinion regarding the type of work and demands on these three acting stages? And which of these do you prefer and why?
AC - É difícil escolher, mas sou mais influenciada pela qualidade do projeto. Se um projeto emociona-me, então quero fazê-lo. Se é cinema, televisão ou teatro não é o que finalmente define o meu interesse, mas sim a qualidade do projeto. O trabalho no cinema ou na televisão exige um código, estrutura e horários diferentes dos do teatro, onde todo o processo, texto e estrutura são focados no que será um trabalho com a plateia ao vivo. É isso que a torna estes dois trabalhos completamente diferentes entre si, entre outras variáveis claro está.
It's difficult to choose, but I am more influenced by the quality of the project itself. If a project moves me, then I want to do it. Whether it is cinema, television or theater, this is not what finally defines my interest, but the quality of the project. Film or television work requires a different code, structure and time than theater, where the whole process, text and structure are focused on what will be a work with the live audience. That is what makes these two works completely different from each other, among other variables of course.
PC - Um dos seus primeiros destaques na indústria cinematográfica foi a sua incrível performance no curta “Lo Que Haria”, vencedor de vários festivais nacionais e internacionais, tendo também sido apresentado no Short Film Corner do Festival de Cannes. O que nos pode contar sobre essa experiência e como é que esse trabalho contribuiu para a sua carreira?/ One of your first highlights in the Film Industry was your amazing work in the short “Lo Que Haria”, winner of several national and international film festivals, and presented in the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival. What can you tell us about that experience and how that work helped in your career?
AC - Muito obrigado! Foi o primeiro trabalho que me desafiou completamente como atriz. Tem um monólogo cheio de emoções e contradições, com um código bastante teatral, sendo que o mesmo foi pensado para a câmara. Nós ensaiamos um mês com o realizador Natural Arpajou. Os ensaios já eram uma experiência de pesquisa muito interessante e intensa e, em seguida, filmar foi como se o projeto nos transmitisse algo muito íntimo que, com trabalho, conseguimos criar pouco a pouco, encontrando todas as possibilidades que a história tem para contar. O que sempre quero fazer é um trabalho que me dê a possibilidade de ganhar mais maturidade como atriz. Então, quando os trabalhos nos desafiam tanto quanto este, eles acabam por nos oferecer muitas possibilidades de aprendizagem durante e após o processo de filmagem.
Thank you very much. It was the first work that completely challenged me as an actress. It has a monologue full of emotions and contradictions, with a quite theatrical code but for the camera. We rehearsed a month with the director Natural Arpajou. The rehearsals were already a very interesting and intense search experience and then filming it was as if they were exhaling in something very intimate that we had created little by little, finding all the possibilities that the story has to tell the audience. What I always wants do is a job that gives me the possibility of being seen more maturely as an actress. So when the jobs challenge you as much as this on did, then they give you a lot possibilities to learn during and after the filming process.
PC – O seu mais recente projecto é "Una Chica Invisible", onde interpreta uma jovem que descobre que um vídeo embaraçoso dela se tornou viral e passa a contemplar o suicídio como consequência dessa humilhação. Como é que se preparou para esse papel e como se envolveu neste projeto?/ Your latest work is “Una Chica Invisible” where you play a girl that finds out that an embarrassing video of her has gone viral and contemplates suicide as a consequence of that humiliation. How did you prepare for this role and how did you got involved in this project?
AC - Fui contactada diretamente pelo realizador Francisco Bendomir, que concluiu que este papel era perfeito para mim. Acredito que, em grande parte, essa sua posição teve a ver com um filme que eu fiz há alguns anos atrás chamado "Nem uma única palavra de amor" que se tornou viral e, graças a esse papel, ele calculou que eu conseguiria replicar os sentimentos da personagem do filme, embora não seja exatamente a mesma coisa. Preparei-me para o papel como sempre me preparo: ensaiando e anotando no meu caderno para cada personagem que interpreto, propondo algumas ideias, investigando o mundo das atrizes especializadas em cantar para teatro musical.
I was called directly by the director, Francisco Bendomir, who saw that role for me. I believe that in large part it has to do with a film that I've did a few years ago called "Not a single word of love" that went viral, so I knew what it felt in some way, although it is not the same thing that happens to the character, also called Andrea. I prepared myself as I always do: rehearsing and taking notes in my notebook for each character, proposing some ideas, investigating the world of actresses who specialize in singing for musical theater.
PC – Que desafios é que teve que enfrentar para dar vida à personagem Andrea?/ What challenges did you faced to bring the character of Andrea to life?
AC - Sem querer adiantar muito, mas tive que subir a uma árvore de 7 metros e isso foi definitivamente um desafio! É óbvio que tal foi feito com as devidas medidas de segurança, mas foi na mesma exigente. Por outro lado, preparar a cena musical também foi desafiador, já que foi preciso trabalhar e ajustar o mundo mais teatral ao cinema. Eu adorei trabalhar em equipa para unir esses dois mundos.
Not wanting to say too much, but I had to climb a 7 meter tree and that was definitely a challenge! It is obvious that this was done with the necessary security measures, but it was nevertheless demanding. On the other hand, preparing the music scene was also challenging, since it was necessary to work and adjust the more theatrical world to the cinema industry. I loved working as a team to bring these two worlds together.
PC - O que espera que o público sinta ao ver o filme? & Nbsp; Existe algum elemento de horror / fantasia que se destaca? E qual é a principal lição que este filme pode-nos ensinar, uma vez que aborda questões importantes e temas contemporâneos, como o assunto do ciberbullying?/ Tell us what do you expect the audience tat FantasPorto o feel when watching this film? Are there any horror/fantasy elements in it? And what’s for you the major lesson that this film can teach us since it delves on major issues and contemporary themes like the ciberbullying subject?
AC - É a minha segunda vez no Fantasporto. Tive a sorte de apresentar outro filme argentino "Jorge y Alberto Contra Los Demonios Neoliberales" há alguns anos. Com "Una Chica Invisible", espero que o público se divirta tanto quanto todos nós nos divertimos a fazer o filme. Existem elementos fantásticos e isso depende de como olhas para ele! Mas não podes nem consegues enquadrá-lo num só género. Acho que esta história fala-nos sobre a importância da comunicação e o quanto isso nos afeta, mas também que as redes sociais/ internet são poderosas e que, quando bem utilizadas, são divertidas, úteis e enriquecedoras, mas quando mal utilizadas podem destruir vidas. Também acho que faz uma leitura pessoal do que consideramos humor ou drama.
It is my second time in Fantasporto, I was lucky enough to come to present another Argentine film "Jorge y Alberto" a few years ago. With "Una Chica Invisible" I hope the audience has fun as much as we all had fun making the movie. There are fantastic elements, and it depends on how you look at it! But you can't strictly genderfy it. I think this story talks about the importance of communication and how much it affects us, but also that social networks / internet are powerful, and that when well used are fun, useful and enriching, but when misused can destroy lives. I also think that it makes a reading of what we consider humor or drama a very personal thing.
PC - Como descreve "Una Chica Invisible" numa única frase? E quais são as suas expectativas para o seu percurso comercial?How do you describe “Una Chica Invisible” in a single sentence? And what are you overall expectations for this film’s festival and theatre run?
AC - É uma comédia negra sobre as desventuras particulares de três jovens que são observados por uma menina brilhante. Até agora, o filme estreou em Bafici, em Buenos Aires, onde teve uma recepção muito boa do público. Espero que em breve seja lançado nos cinemas e também que tenha mais presenças em festivais.
It's a black comedy about the particular misfortunes of three young people who are observed by a brilliant girl. So far, the film premiered in Bafici, Buenos Aires, where it had a very good reception from the public. I hope it will soon be released in theatres, but I'm also hopeful that it will have more appearances at festivals.
PC - O que se segue na sua carreira? O que podemos esperar de Andrea Carballo em um futuro próximo?/ What’s next for your career? What can we expect from Andrea Carballo in the near future?
AC - Estou a preparar-me para dois papéis, um para uma série de TV que vou filmar em Madrid e outro para o cinema, onde vou trabalhar com Juan Bautista Stagnaro em Buenos Aires. Por outro lado, estou a aguardar a estreia de dois filmes argentinos que filmei no ano passado: "En el bosque" e "36 horas", este último dirigido por Nestor Mazzini. Também estou a trabalhar num projeto vinculado à literatura que em breve poderei mostrar ao público.
I am preparing for two roles, one for a TV series that I will shoot in Madrid, and one for cinema, where I will work with Juan Bautista Stagnaro in Buenos Aires. On the other hand, I am waiting for the premiere of two Argentine films that I shot last year: "En el bosque” and “36 horas”, this last one directed by Nestor Mazzini. I am also writing and producing a project linked to literature that I will soon be able to show to the public.
