No ponto que interessa a Portugal, "Aparição", o candidato de Portugal ao Óscar de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro, não conseguiu uma vaga entre os 9 finalistas dos quais, recorde-se, saíram os cinco nomeados finais. Também os candidatos de Brasil e Espanha não se conseguiram juntar aos selecionados que incluem os ultra favoritos "Roma" (México), "Cold War" (Polónia" e "Shoplifters (Japão).
